House Tour Tuesday, Pottery Barn Inspired

I thought I'd share a remodel we did a few years ago.  Here's the inspiration photo I snagged from a Pottery Barn catalog.

I fell in love with the tile on the walls and since I have a little trouble keeping my hairspray on my hair, I thought tile on the walls might be a good solution to my scrubbing problem--walls don't like to be scrubbed and they don't wear hairspray well either!

I also wanted to copy the harringbone patterned tile, but not the color.  If you've ever lived with a dark floor, you know they are only good looking right after being cleaned--before anyone can walk on them or over them.  That is a lesson I learned the hard way--never again!

Actually, there wasn't anything in this photo I didn't like, but I had a different room (and different cleaning needs) altogether.  This is what to room looked like before the redo.

I really debated whether to show this shot or not, but it seemed only fair, painful, but fair.  Please hurry on to the next photo, get me out of my misery, and look at the after photo.  Aaahhh, more pleasant on all the senses.

As you can see, I had a totally different footprint to work with.  I removed a fiberglass tub and shower and went with just a shower.  I had never taken a bath in that dinky little tub and knew I would never miss it.  Removing it actually gave more width space too--the fiberglass came out from the wall an inch or two and that made a hugh difference in a shower installation.

I kept the old vanity and just replaced the top, sinks and faucets.  The mirror was given a tiled border.  I had planned to paint the vanity antique white, but that is still undone.

A close-up of the faucet, granite, and moulding around the mirror.

This is the tiled wall--floor to ceiling--and it is continuous into the shower.  I opted for the harringbone patter on the floor, but in a tile that coordinated with the walls.   It gave it a more spacious look with the unbroken color flowing from floor to wall.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of a very personal space and how the thought process went from inspiration to reality.  I loved doing it and had a great contractor do all of the work--my family loves the man, especially my husband because of the headaches he didn't have to deal with, not to mention not having to deal with me on the project.

As always, thanks for reading one more post--I hope you found inspiration or entertainment.  I wish you a great day!  Robin

  3. Hi Robin!

Loved seeing your wonderful bathroom re-do from that inspiration photo at PB. Your workman did a fabulous job!
I miss my HUGE Roman walk-in shower that we had in FL. One of these days, I'm going to have one put in here...I'd do it tomorrow if DH would let me.

Your guest bedroom was a delight to visit, too. The vintage furniture & that precious quilt are all wonderful treasures to cherish. You're very lucky to have such nice heirlooms.

I really enjoyed getting to go along on your tour of that Absolute Vintage boutique! I'm headed over to their website right now.

Thanks for sharing & I'll be back to visit more often.

    fondly,

  15. Job well done! Our master bath could use a re-do. It's not even 10 years old, but the couple that built the house made some poor design decisions. Yours looks fabulous!
