A SICK CHRISTMAS TREE

This is the story of a tree that was ill.

It didn't look too bad in the daylight with all of the lights on...
BUT
come nightfall, and the tale tale signs were beginning to show
a dark spot here, a dark spot there...

For the past two years we'd tried to heal the holes
in the lights and we'd all limped along pretending
that next year the tree would be better
(or we'd figure out how to fix it)

It was difficult to see such a new tree in such ill-health
and this tree was supposed to be immuned to lights failing!
The box stated that one light could go out and the rest would stay lit!
This was supposed to be our long-term tree.

Then, this year,
the big blowout happened...
just as I was coming down with the worse bronchitis I ever known,
I must have made the sick tree too!
We are both feeling a little spotty!

Luckily the packages didn't catch the virus and still look sparkly...

Wonderful  New Year!

SIS' LITTLE TREE

Feeling a bit under the weather this week, but I'd already edited some pictures of a darling little tree at my Sis' house last week and thought I'd share them with you.  Not a lot of chatting in this post...the pictures speak for themselves.

The little tree is adorned with a collection of retired Wedgewood ornaments.

They are porcelain blue disks with different figures.

The tree is sitting on her antique drum table and she did a beautiful arrangement underneath too!

She made bird's nests out of her wreaths.

And now, a sign I saw at the beginning of December that made me giggle and wonder where I might fall on Santa's list.  Which one are you on?

Thanks for reading and hope your season  is going well.

The Tree

I did not put all of my tree decorations on this year and right about now, I'm missing some of my old friends and the meaning they impart to my tree.  I'm already thinking of next year and the changes I will make to the tree--that just how I roll and part of my enjoyment of decorating.  Here's the tree for 2011--

Bits of Christmas

As I was looking around the house today, still not doing my shopping, I took special note of some spots where the spirit of Christmas touched my heart.  This pot of gorgeous white poinsettias was a gift from loving friends when my heart was aching.  I adore them, they remind me of the love of three wonderful friends who reached out with a loving touch.

This was a June birthday gift from my sister and a dear friend.  Both of them went out of their way to surprise me on my birthday with a handmade cross-stitch that I had admired last Christmas at my friend's house.  I smile in my heart knowing such care and thought went into this very special gift.

This little snowman use to adorn my old white fridge.  When the new stainless fridge came to our house, I wondered how I would incorporate this little guy in my decorating for Christmas.  He now resides in the most frequented bathroom in the house on a magnetic board I made this summer.

This is a paperback book turned Christmas tree!  I made it a few weeks ago by folding and folding and folding....

This is a cross-stitch I did about 25 years ago and I still smile each year when I take it out.  Hope you smile when you see it too.

I pray you have time to smile in your heart this season.  I hope you can find a reason for joy.  Robin
