Holy Cakes!

Each year my church has a dessert auction that goes toward scholarships for our youth.  It is a fun Sunday to see the creativity of the bakers.  I usually just pray that my dessert will be sale-able!  This year, I found a little more creativity than normal and was happy with my chocolate three-layer cake with a cream cheese buttercream filling and a luscious fudge-like outer frosting.  The recipe can be found here (thank you dear blogging sister).   It was a labor-intensive cake, but very fun to make.  Unfortunately, right now I am gluten-free, so I could not taste the cake, but I did have a LOT of the frosting!  Here's what my finished product looked like.

I put the cake on a piece of blue glass I had and sliced a piece out so the filling would show.  I really would have loved to taste this cake--it took a LOT of willpower!  Hope the buyers will let me know, good or bad, how it tasted.  Oh, with a strong cup of black coffee and this cake, I could be a happy woman!

Now, for the cake I bought...it was ADORABLE, don't you agree?

The whole "hamburger" is edible!  Can you believe it?  See what I mean about creativity?  The ants are plastic.  It is a chocolate cake with gumdrop lettuce and edible paper cheese, I think.  I didn't eat any, but had fun taking it to work and letting others devour it.

Sometimes the joy is in giving and I enjoyed both the baking and decorating of my cake and the giving of the cake I bought to my fellow workers.

As always, thanks for reading.  Robin

PS  The host of my blog is making changes that will effect my followers (God bless you all!) effective March 1.  The future of my blog is on the line with these changes--just to let you know.  Just wanted to make you aware of the possibility that I may discontinue if blogging gets to be more work than joy.
